The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will hold a Design Public Hearing for the proposed New York State Scenic By-Ways Project - Wheatfield Trail in the Town of Wheatfield and City of North Tonawanda, Niagara County. 

Project Description: This project will install a 10-foot-wide multi-use trail within the Seaway Trail corridor connecting the Niagara Falls Greenway Trail from Griffon Park to Gratwick Park. The multi-use trail begins at 102nd Street on the north side of River Road at the Griffon Park trail terminus, crosses to the south side of River Road and continues to Williams Road. At this point it heads north across River Road for about 550 feet and then turns east along the abandoned railway line alignment to Liberty Drive. The trail crosses Liberty Drive and continues parallel to River Road following the active rail line. The trail will then occupy the northern section of River Road from reference marker 265-5402-1030 (near Wheatfield town line) to Witmer Road, approximately 1/3 of a mile. The trail crosses River Road near Witmer Road and connects to the Gratwick Park trail. To accommodate the trail on the existing pavement section of River Road a road diet will be implemented. The road diet will reduce River Road from two lanes in each direction to two north bound lanes and one south bound lane. 

The hearing will be held in an open forum format at the following time and location:

 The public hearing will consist of an information session from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm and a formal hearing beginning at 5:00 pm. There will be displays and informational stations staffed with NYSDOT representatives familiar with the various aspects of the proposed project. NYSDOT representatives will, also, be available to answer residents' questions and provide information about the project.
