Sport and Leisure Activities

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to be a concern for many different organizations. At the Town of Wheatfield Recreation Department, we have consulted with the Town Board and are addressing a number of issues regard our organized practices. I have been in daily communication with our elected officials and will take their lead in how the Recreation may proceed with the 2020 Summer Programs. Recreational programs and events have been designated as a Tier 4 level on the New York State list to reopen. It is impractical for us to foresee that Western New York will hit the re-opening criteria in order for the Town of Wheatfield programs to proceed as planned.
All Recreation offices and buildings remain closed to the public until further notice. This includes the Recreation office on Nash Rd., The Youth Center, and the Community & Senior Center.
Fairmount Park will remain open to the public to use the walking path but the rest room facilities will remain closed. Playground equipment should not be used until further notice. Mario Park will remain closed to the public. All Pavilion rentals at Fairmount Park will be cancelled until further notice, therefore, please contact the Recreation Office (731-3942) for a refund. If you do use the pathway at Fairmount Park, we ask that you practice proper social distancing. If you see large groups of people at any Town Park please contact the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department.
The 2020 Tee ball, Coach Pitch, Baseball and Softball seasons have been cancelled. A delayed and condensed season was considered but the Town has decided it was best to not host a 2020 campaign. If you are already registered, you are entitled to a full refund or you may roll your fee to the 2021 season. An email will be sent to all registrants with instructions.
It comes with great disappointment that the Town of Wheatfield has decided we will be cancelling the 2020 Summer Camp. All registered families are entitled to a full refund or you will have the option to roll your fee over to next year where your 2021 Summer Camp spot will be secured. An email will be sent to all registrants with instructions.
The Town’s annual Firework display for 2020 at Oppenheim Park has been cancelled.
After careful consideration the Wheatfield Family Picnic Committee has regrettable concluded that the 2020 Family Picnic should be cancelled. Given the economic hardship our sponsors are no doubt experiencing the committee felt it could not ask for, or expect, donations at this time. Added to that, the uncertainty of how long the restrictions on large gatherings might last simply made planning and holding even a scaled down picnic untenable. The Committee wants to sincerely thank you, our loyal supporters, for your years of supporting the picnic that has meant so much to the families of Wheatfield and wish you a speedy and full recovery from this pandemic.
It is devastating to make these announcements. As we continue to navigate the Covid-19 pandemic, the Town of Wheatfield would like to thank all of our residents for their support during this time. We are proud servants to the community. Although we explored multiple options to have a full schedule this Summer, The Town of Wheatfield Recreation Department has decided to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and be part of the solution. We look forward to being stronger than ever for the 2021 season.
