Building Department
Mission
Our primary mission is to deliver professional, courteous and timely service to the community by providing uniform enforcement of the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code and other laws which protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens.
Responsibilities
The primary function is to administer and enforce regulations through the issuance of building permits, which are subject to plan review, inspections and insurance requirements. Our plan reviews and permits include building (structural), plumbing and electrical. All inspectors are New York State certified; their duties are varied and cover a wide range of disciplines. In addition, the department assists residents and developers to understand and comply with ordinances and regulations which affect development. Some of the other issues relating to development which are handled in the department include:
- Fire Inspections
- Flood Plains
- Wetlands
