Firearms Permit Review Board (FPRB) Mission Statement

The Firearms Permit Review Board (FPRB) was organized in 1994 and oversees all matters dealing with firearms discharge and safety within the Town of Wheatfield. It is a committee required under statue by the Town of Wheatfield’s Firearms Law 1-1975, amended July, 2002. The governing statues of this law forms the gridlines by which the FPRB operates. e appointed every two years by the Wheatfield Town Board. All actions of the FPRB are under the direction of the Town Board and the FPRB reports directly to them.

Applications for all firearms discharge permits, such as the Muzzleloader Rifle Discharge Permits, are first acted upon by the FPRB who verify that all information on the application is correct and within gridlines for approval The FPRB then, in open town hall meetings, requests the town board to approve (or disapprove) the applications. Upon approval of the town board, the FPRB then issues the proper firearms discharge permit to the applicant. Thus, permits are issued by the FPRB only after being approved by the Town Board.

It is important to recognize that the FPRB does not deal with, or regulate, in any manner, those issues dealing with hunting. Hunting in NYS is under the direct control of the NYS DEC and the FPRB has established a working relationship with them.
