Statement from the Town of Wheatfield Recreation Department

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to be a concern for many different organizations. At the Town of Wheatfield Recreation Department, we have consulted with the Town Board and are addressing a number of issues regarding our organizational practices. We pride ourselves in exhausting every possible avenue to ensure our programs transpire as planned, however, we find it necessary to update the community when adjustments are made.

The Town’s Annual Easter Part scheduled for 4/4/20 is Cancelled.

Please be advised that the Youth Center’s Summer Camp is completely full, including the waiting list, and we are no longer accepting applications for this program. This program is governed by the Niagara County Health Department. They are the entity who issues the permit each year in order for the Town of Wheatfield to host our annual Summer Camp. As of this moment, we have been given no indication Summer Camp permits will be denied, so we are moving forward with having 2020 our best Summer Camp to date. We will update all registrants as more information becomes available.

Registrations for T-Ball, Coach Pitch, Girls Softball & Baseball Leagues has ended and waiting lists have been formed. We have not received any evidence that the 2020 season will be cancelled, so for those that are already registered, we are working on a number of contingency plans to ensure our ball players have a season. We are considering a delayed start, a condensed season or a combination of both. If we do not receive orders to cancel the season from the NYS Governor, Niagara County Health Department, or the Wheatfield Town Board then we will do everything within our capabilities to provide a safe environment for our ball players to have a 2020 season.

I have consulted with the Town Board and we have decided that Town of Wheatfield Parks will remain open, but we ask that you refrain from contact with hard surfaces and from gathering in groups. This is in harmony with guidance from the State of New York and the CDC, as precautions to restrain the spread of this virus. All playground equipment will be closed until further notice, but the walking path at Fairmount Park will remain open to users practicing social distancing.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Recreation Department at 731-3942. All Recreation offices and buildings, including the Youth Center & the Community and Senior Center, are closed to the public until further notice. Furthermore, we are following the Governor’s mandate of essential personnel only, therefore, if you leave a message at one of our locations it may take a few days for a response and we thank you for your patience.
